Americas army was created by the army. Designed to 'train' or farm some people.

n00b, as I say time and time again, is not a word, despite large numbers of morons believing it is simply due to its widespread usage...

English is a conventional language, though, which means it's constantly evolving with the people using it.
Just because a word isn't listed in the Webster's Dictionary doesn't mean it isn't a "word".

You've just said so yourself that it's under widespread usage, so yeah, that'd mean it's a word.

Some of the most common origins of new words are novel derivations, clippings, and compounds. Cellular Phone was a new compound, and Cell Phone is a clipping of it. Cell is a further clipping, and Celly is a novel derivation.

Now aside from whether or not something falls under conventional English, the definition of a word;

Quote:
A sound or a combination of sounds, or its representation in writing or printing, that symbolizes and communicates a meaning and may consist of a single morpheme or of a combination of morphemes.
Quote:
Something said; an utterance, remark, or comment
N00b has a pronounciation, and although it has a markedly different method of spelling, it's still clear how to say it. It also conveys a meaning, as well.
I don't see how it has any failings in that department.
It's obviously said as well, or we wouldn't be talking about it now.

So I'm unsure as to what you're going by to say n00b isn't a word. It may not be a word you approve of or use yourself, but I'm certain there're quite a few words that fall under that category.

If you'd like to clarify an alternate definition or use of the word, 'word', be my guest. Seeing as we're speaking a conventional language, it's likely that your interpretation is as valid as mine.

I think people who use "n00b" or "1337" are actually newbs because they use it a lot. I just use newbie or less experienced.

Lately when I have been joining 5 man farming groups for Sorrow's Furnace I have been telling the Team that I am a n00B Monk at the game. Just to kinda wake them up and see if they have brains. After I have kept them (mostly) alive and kicking through out the farming run few will say to me: "Dude, yer not a n00b.."

All in good fun....

I love it when you win a match and the other team calls you a noob. Which in turn means that they lost to a group of n00bs. Then that makes them a group of nubs.

Edit: Can't Spell.

It's insulting when you're playing and something goes wrong, you know the reason, and someone calls you n00b blaming it on you.

It's what you call *Galling* A word to better describe the fact that it's irritating and insulting at the same time. Because your really know this to be untrue. (unless you really are new, then it doesn't bother you).

Ex.
As a Mo/R I had 2 warriors that rushed out of my sphere of influence after a previous battle that I had called out that my energy was 1, he engages in a battle where he subsequently died because I could not heal him.

''Yo Monk you suck, you are so n00b.''

However I had called my energy at the end of the battle and when I did try to heal I called it out a good 5 seconds before they died .
The rest of the team then started calling them a dumb@$$es knowing that it was *them* not me that where a newbies.

Now imagine:
I'm in ToPK and I'm the same Monk. I see a group of 7 ready to go, I invite myself. They are a 1R and 6N build. I *would* have prepared Light of Dwayna, Divine healing and other skills if I had had time to change my skills to the build. But as soon as I was in their group they entered and I was screaming

''Aaaaaah Aaaahhhh!!!''' as they death nova'd themselves and started exploding. I tried to res as many as possible but I wasn't prepared for any of it.'

**P.S I knew the build, I knew how to deal with it. But it was not a lack of gaming skills it was the lack of time to prepare the skills that I needed that caused me to fail in my job.**

Subsequently ppl started calling me noob, but I laughed my arse off and a few of them laughed with me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I've never been seriously called a n00b without other ppl backing me up about it (ppl I don't even know!) because I always call my skills and condition, I always read and write during and after battle and I use the map constantly.

Name calling in any variety is an infantile response from people that have superiority complexes. How does this help in any way it doesn't... It only serves to promote juvenile social behavior in the place most go to escape such mannerism. I always not matter how poorly a person or group may play just give recommendations as to how to improve their game play. Deep down inside you know that most will take something away from what you say and may very well change and become better.

We should promote an environment that is healthy and full of encouragement as this “virtual world” is truly what we make of it. I know, I know I sound like an idealist but just take the time to think about how what you say can affect others.
